Women’s studies centre organized International conference at Punjabi university

Women’s Studies Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala organized two days 11th International conference on the theme “Holistic Health of Women: Issues and Challenges” on 20th and 21st Nov. 2019. Inaugural session was held at Senate Hall of the University on 20th Nov. 2019. Prof. B.S. Guman Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala presided over the session. He said that legal, political and social restructuring through aggressive approach is required to improve the health conditions of women in India.

Dr. Leroy Allen Furr, Professor of Sociology, Auburn University, Auburn in his keynote address said that women health is a chronic global problem and needs to diagnosed and tackled not only at downstream level, but upstream levels as well with a long term sustainable approach.

Guest of honour, Dr. Maina Chawla Singh, Scholar in Residence, American University, Washington DC spoke about women’s personal well being through development of self image and self care.

Kiranpreet Kaur, Member, Punjab State Commission for Women said that rigorous measures are needed to overcome hurdles with regard to women’s health.

Dr. Ritu Lehal, Director, Women’s Studies Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala welcomed all the Guests and shared the information about the progress of various activities of the Centre. Women, Man and transgender of Eminence in the diverse fields- Professor Rajesh Gill, Jagmati Sangwan, Prof. Ritika Khera, Dr. Pooja Gupta, Parneet Singh, Tx Dhananjay Chauhan were honoured on the occassion. Book on previous year proceedings was also realesed. Dr. G.S. Batra, Dean, Academic Affairs proposed vote of thanks. Dr, Harpreet Kaur, Associate Professor, Department of Distance Education coordinated the session.
