World Chess Championship Final: India’s 18 year old stuns world with his game

After three days and four games of intensely nervy chess across two formats, Magnus Carlsen finally managed to win the FIDE World Cup for the first time in his career on Thursday. He defeated India’s 18 year old Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa alias Pragg.

Norwegian Grand Master (GM) Magnus Carlsen became a first-time winner of the FIDE World Cup after defeating India’s 18-year-old Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa in the final on August 24. Carlsen beat the Indian GM 1.5-0.5 in the tiebreaks.

World Chess Championship Final: India’s 18 year old stuns world with his game. Though GM Magnus Carlsen defeated India’s Grand Master (GM) Praggnanandhaa in the final, but not before the 18-year-old teenage prodigy had dragged him through the tie-breaker.

Praggnanandhaa, who stormed to the finals of the World Cup after beating two of the top three rated players in the world. He defeated American GMs Fabiano Caruana and Hikaru Nakamura.

Pragg has secured a ticket to the 2024 Candidates Tournament that will take place in Canada in April next year to decide who will challenge Ding Liren, the reigning world champion.

Bikramjit Singh Sandhu, former president of Punjab State Chess Association said ” Pragg lost his first Game ,2nd game was draw (Score 1.5 : 0.5). Pragg played well throughout the world cup. He defeated world Number 2 & 3 enroute final. Pragg is cool and performed very well but Carlson is more experienced and seasoned. Anyhow Pragg has proved his mettle throughout the tournament .After this tournament he is a Star. I wish him every success in future.”
