World University organises National level online competitions

On the occasion of International Biodiversity Day, Department of Botany and Environmental Sciences of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, organised national level online competitions, under the able stewardship of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Prit Pal Singh, on the theme of “Nature during Covid-19 scenario”. Dr. Prit Pal Singh specially thanked the Punjab Biodiversity Board, Chandigarh and National Biodiversity Authority, New Delhi for sponsoring this grand event. Sharing information about the competitions, Dr. Yadvinder Singh, Assistant Professor and Incharge, Department of Botany and Environmental Sciences said that on this occasion essay writing, collage making and short slogan writing competitions were conducted under the theme, in which more than 400 contestants from different parts of India participated. He shared the importance of biodiversity in human life and said that during the on-going lockdown period due to Corona epidemic, significant changes have taken place in the surrounding environment. He also mentioned that it is matter of immense pride that the information about the competitions was also twitted by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Changes, Govt. of India, United Nations Biodiversity and Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh. Dr. S.S. Billing, Dean, Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences, applauded all the participants while congratulating the winners and said that certificates would be sent to all by email. He congratulated all the faculty members of the department for the successful conduct of the competitions.

Assistant Professor of the Department, Prof. Joshua shared information about the winners and said that for essay writing first, second and third positions, respectively, were bagged by  Rupali Sharma, Government College for Women, Gandhinagar (Jammu), Anika Sharma, Govt. College, Una (Himachal Pradesh) and Arpana Thakur, Govt. College, Bilaspur (Himachal Pradesh), Arshvir Singh, Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab). The first place in collage making was won by Manik Kapoor, AS College, Khanna (Punjab), second by Surbhi Singh, Government College for Women, Gandhinagar (Jammu) and third place by Prerna Kukreja, Government College, Nirvana, Hisar (Haryana). While Harjinder Singh, D.R.V. D.A.V. Centenary Public School, Phillaur (Punjab) and Japkaran Singh Rathore and Jashandeep Singh, Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Jalalpur, Mandi Gobindgarh (Punjab) secured second and third place, respectively.
