World University Organizes awareness rally on the occasion of World Environment Day

On the occasion of World Environment Day, volunteers of NSS, and the students of Department of Botany and Environmental Science, and Department of Physical Education and Sports Technology of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib organized a rally on the theme “Only One Earth” to make Fatehgarh Sahib a plastic-free city and to create awareness among the residents for water conservation.
This rally was organized with the collaboration of Punjab Pollution Control Board (Regional Office), Fatehgarh Sahib. The rally was flagged off by Prof. Prit Pal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib and Parneet Shergill, Deputy Commissioner Fatehgarh Sahib.
On this occasion, vice chancellor Prof. Prit Pal Singh congratulated the students for this endeavor and said that we should take a resolution to free the earth from single use plastic. He further said that we should follow the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and should work together to free nature from pollution.
The Deputy Commissioner Fatehgarh Sahib Parneet Shergill while addressing the students said that plastic is a harmful substance for us, which leads to many diseases affecting human life, therefore there is an urgent need to completely boycott the use of single use plastic.

On this occasion, Avneet Kaur, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development), Fatehgarh Sahib, Anuradha Sharma, Executive Engineer (Environment), Punjab Pollution Control Board, Prof. Dr. Bhupinder Singh Ghuman, Head, Department of Physical Education and Sports Technology, Dr. Yadvinder Singh, In-charge, Department of Botany and Environmental Sciences, Er. Gurkaran Singh Walia & Er. Rubal Goyal, S.D.O., Punjab Pollution Control Board and other Professors of the University along with research scholars were also present.
