World University students did PhD research in Nuclear Physics

Fatehgarh Sahib-Bringing laurels to the University and the state, two students of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, Manpreet Kaur and Mandeep Kaur have successfully defended their respective PhD final Viva-Voice examinations in the area of nuclear physics. They are the first ones to accomplish the task from the Department of Physics under the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences of the University. The PhD research work of Manpreet Kaur and Mandeep Kaur are entitled, “Dynamics of heavy ion collisions at low and intermediate energies” and “Decay analysis of different nuclear systems using collective clusterization approach”, respectively. It is mentioned that Manpreet Kaur and Mandeep Kaur were an integral part of the Theoretical Nuclear Physics Laboratory of the University and carried out their doctoral research work under the supervision of Dr. BirBikram Singh and his collaborators Dr. Manoj K. Sharma, Thapar University, Patiala and Dr. Varinderjit Kaur, Khalsa College, Patiala.

Dr. BirBikram Singh said that the work of these students will benefit the scientific community particularly in the field of nuclear research to understand the related reaction mechanisms in much better way. Moreover, the work will support the experimentalists working globally within the radioactive ion beam facilities of the international nuclear research laboratories in various countries. Further, he said that it is a moment of great pride and honour for the University as well as the country that these two bright researchers represented us at the global level, during pursuit of their PhD degree, at a number of scientific conferences in India and abroad (USA). Dr. Singh added that the participation in these events immensely benefited them not only to get first hand global exposure but to aware themselves about the latest developments in the field of nuclear physics. He said that both the scholars also bagged research scholarships and won best presentation awards in the scientific conferences, during their PhD research work. Head of the Department of Physics, Dr. Tejbir Singh congratulated the researchers

Dean Research, Dr. R.K. Sharma and Registrar, Dr. Pritpal Singh also applauded the researchers and their supervisors for their achievements.  Dr. R.K. Sharma admired the efforts of the Physics department and hoped that the research work done by the researchers will not only be beneficial for the University, but will also be very productive for our society, country and the humanity as well. Dr. Pritpal Singh said that the primary function of any University is promotion of research and our University provides world class research facilities to its researchers and students so that they are able to explore new horizons in their field of education and research.
