MRSPTU celebrates 10th Foundation Day with Expert Talks on Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s Legacy

Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, commemorated its 10th Foundation Day with a grand celebration featuring insightful expert talks on the life and philosophy of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
The event brought together distinguished speakers, including Dr. Harpal Singh Pannu (Professor Retd., Punjabi University, Patiala) and Gurpreet Singh Artist (Bathinda), who shared their expertise on the great Sikh ruler’s contributions to history, leadership, and innovation.
Delivering the keynote speech, Dr. Harpal Singh Pannu captivated the audience with an in-depth discussion on Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s leadership, vision, and historical impact. He emphasized the Maharaja’s role in unifying Punjab, promoting education, and implementing social reforms. Dr. Pannu also shed light on crucial historical events, including Maharani Jindan’s arrest and Maharaja Duleep Singh’s return to Sikhism.
In his address, Dr. Pannu also paid homage to the late artist Chitarkar Jarnail Singh, recognizing his contributions to Sikh historical art.
Artist Gurpreet Singh delivered an engaging, visually-supported presentation on Sikh history before and during Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s reign. He explored various aspects of the Maharaja’s rule and contributions while also highlighting Lehna Singh Majithia, a scientist of that era who pioneered modern weaponry and innovations.
Singh urged MRSPTU’s Vice Chancellor to initiate research projects focused on lesser-known historical figures like Majithia to promote awareness of Punjab’s rich heritage.

Registrar Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar extended a heartfelt vote of thanks, encouraging attendees to promote Punjab, Punjabi, and Punjabiat.
The event, convened by Dr. Bhupinder Pal Singh Dhot, Director of Sports and Cultural Activities, saw enthusiastic participation from MRSPTU’s Deans, Directors, senior faculty, staff, and students.
The program was expertly anchored by Prof. Sunita Kotwal, and students exhibited deep interest in the discussions, maintaining pin-drop silence throughout.
