Ajayvir Singh Lalpura, District President of the BJP in Rupnagar, held a crucial meeting with farmers today in the village of Gurdaspura. In this meeting, Lalpura launched a strong attack against the Aam Aadmi Party’s controversial land pooling scheme. Farmers from several affected villages – including Bada Phool, Samrala, Badi Haveli, Arazi Rupnagar, and Shampura – gathered in large numbers and unanimously called the scheme a conspiracy to loot their land.
Lalpura assured the farmers that he is firmly standing like a rock to protect their rights. He stated:“Not even an inch of Rupnagar’s land will be forcibly taken. Acquiring land without farmers’ consent is a direct violation of the Constitution, and we will not tolerate it at any cost.”
He accused the AAP government of deliberately implementing the scheme under the Punjab Regional Town Planning Act, 1995 instead of the central Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, which mandates four times the compensation and guarantees rehabilitation for affected families.
Farmers at the meeting shared their anguish, saying:“Our ancestral land was included in the pooling scheme without informing us. We didn’t receive any notice, nor were there any consultations. We sustain our families through farming – are we now expected to become laborers for people from Delhi?”
Lalpura condemned the scheme as an attempt to snatch land from farmers and hand it over to land mafias under a new model of exploitation, without any consent or consultation.
He revealed that the following villages and land records in Rupnagar have been secretly included in the land pooling notifications:
- Badi Haveli (Hadbast No. 45),
- Gurdaspura (Hadbast No. 75),
- Bada Phool (Hadbast No. 76),
- Abheypur Beli,
- Arazi Rupnagar, and Samrala.
Lalpura highlighted that the khasra numbers (land survey numbers) from these areas were quietly published in official advertisements without informing or taking the consent of the farmers, proving that no proper communication or trust-building was attempted.
Calling it not just administrative negligence but a deliberate conspiracy by the elected government to forcibly seize land, Lalpura issued a direct warning to the Chief Minister and local MLA of Punjab to stop playing with farmers’ sentiments. He declared that he would not remain silent under any circumstances and would escalate the matter through legal channels as well as mass public movements if necessary.
In conclusion, Lalpura said this was just the beginning. If the government does not withdraw the scheme, massive public protests will erupt across the district, and the entire responsibility will lie with the Punjab government.
