UGC-MMTTC, Punjabi University successfully concludes Short Term Course on “AI, Machine Learning and Cyber Security”

Under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala, the UGC–Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Punjabi University, Patiala, successfully concluded its 6-days Short-Term Course on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Cyber Security.

The course aimed to equip faculty members with essential knowledge and practical skills in rapidly advancing technological domains. Over six days, participants gained comprehensive insights into fundamental and emerging technologies, ethical digital practices—including data privacy, responsible AI use, and cybersecurity ethics—as well as exposure to modern computational tools, frameworks, and applications shaping the future of education and research.

Delivering the valedictory address, Prof. (Dr.) Raman Maini, Director, MMTTC, Thanked Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala and said that their inspiring leadership, academic vision, and continuous encouragement have been the driving force behind all the activities and progress of the UGC–Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC)andalso expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for their unwavering support and motivation for every programme conducted under the banner of MMTTC.

Prof. (Dr.) Maini, welcomed the chief guest of the day Prof. (Dr.) Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda and expressed his heartfelt gratitude and thanked him for his gracious presence and his distinguished contributions to the fields of education and research, as well as for his visionary approach to institutional development. After that Dr. Maini Welcomed Guest of Honour Prof. (Dr.) Neeraj Goyal, Principle, Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala and expressed sincere gratitude to the Principal of Multani Mal Modi College for the unwavering support extended to the programme. He acknowledged Dr. Neeraj for his commitment to academic excellence and appreciated the institution’s continued collaboration in promoting quality professional development.He thanked Course Coordinator Prof. (Dr.) Lakhwinder Kaur, Professor, Department of Computer Engineering, and Co-Coordinator (Dr.) Harpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Engineering, Punjabi University, Patiala for his efforts.Dr. Maini expressed profound satisfaction with the enthusiastic participation throughout the programme. He reiterated MMTTC’s vision that education is the most powerful tool for meaningful transformation and emphasized that AI and Cyber Security are not only technological disciplines but societal necessities in today’s interconnected world. “In an era dominated by data and automation,” he stated, “ethics, transparency, and responsibility must guide every technological advancement.”

The Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, highlighted that Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security together form the twin pillars of the digital future. He encouraged participants to develop intelligent systems that are secure, transparent, and beneficial to society. “True innovation,” he remarked, “lies in building technologies that are not only smart but also safe, responsible, and sustainable.” He appreciated the efforts of the Centre for organizing such a relevant and future-oriented course.

The Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr.) Neeraj Goyal, Principle, Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala, noted that AI and Machine Learning are transforming research, business, and governance across the world. He stressed the need for integrating ethical AI practices and robust cybersecurity measures in all sectors to build trust and reliability in digital systems. He applauded MMTTC’s initiative in promoting faculty development in such critical emerging areas.

Course Coordinator, Prof. (Dr.) Lakhwinder Kaur, encouraged participants to apply innovative thinking and integrate AI, ML, and Cyber Security principles to address real-world challenges. She emphasized the growing global importance of data protection, digital ethics, and misinformation management, urging participants to remain creative, original, and authentic in their research area.

Course Co-Coordinator, Dr. Harpreet Kaur, reviewed the objectives and thematic focus of the six-days programme. She highlighted that the course featured expert-led sessions on pivotal areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Neural Networks, Deep Learning, Cyber Threats and Defence Mechanisms, AI Ethics, and the role of Machine Learning in Cyber Security. She appreciated the active participation of the attendees and encouraged them to apply the knowledge and skills gained to strengthen their academic and research endeavours and she extended a formal vote of thanks.

During the closing ceremony, Dr. Maini conveyed heartfelt appreciation for the dedicated support of the staff members—Dr. Mandeep Singh (Technical Officer-II), Dyal Dutt, Surinder Singh,  Kanta Rani, Mahaveer Singh and  Surinder Kumar—acknowledging their exemplary organizational skills and invaluable contributions to the smooth and successful conduct of the online Short-Term Course.

The valedictory session concluded with positive feedback from participants and a reaffirmation of MMTTC’s commitment to promoting quality professional development in emerging technological areas.
