Dehradun Police’s initiative may set a new benchmark in law and order management, emerging as a trendsetter

In a first of its kind, Dehradun police under the command of its Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Premendr Singh Dobal,IPS  has initiated a project to manage law and order in the capital city of Uttrakhand.

Dehradun police have stepped up security measures by bringing more than a dozen leading hotels, pubs, and bars of the capital of hill state under direct surveillance.

Authorities have taken access to entry, exit of the CCTV systems of these establishments to strengthen law enforcement and ensure quicker response to any incidents.

The aim of the Dehradun police is to build public confidence and tightens security across key nightlife hangouts, public places and not to interfere in their lives.

Though the move comes after a violent clash at a bar led to gunfire, raising serious concerns about the city’s law and order situation but the move will help in controlling the future incidents.

“The brainchild of this idea , district police chief Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Dehradun, Premendra Singh Dobal,IPS held a meeting with hotel, pub, and bar operators, directing officials to coordinate with them and integrate their CCTV systems into the police monitoring network” said an official.

“As a resident on any place, this move feels reassuring because better access to CCTV footage can help authorities respond faster during emergencies. It also adds a sense of accountability and may deter crime in the area. However, I hope proper safeguards are in place to protect citizens’ privacy while using this technology” said Gurjit Singh

Meanwhile Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Premendr Singh Dobal,IPS could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.

As per reports, special police teams have since begun connecting surveillance cameras from major establishments to a centralized system as this will allow real-time monitoring and immediate review of footage in case of any untoward incident, significantly speeding up investigations and action.

A dedicated technical team has also been formed to expand this initiative by bringing more establishments under surveillance. The aim is not only to improve public safety but also to keep a strict watch on illegal or suspicious activities in such venues.

Background of the Incident
Earlier this week, a dispute at a bar escalated into a shootout between two groups. During the incident, a stray bullet struck retired Brigadier Mukesh Kumar Joshi, who was on a morning walk, resulting in his death on the spot. The incident triggered widespread concern over safety in the city.

Ongoing Investigation
As per reports, Police teams are actively conducting raids across multiple states, including Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, to apprehend the accused. The main accused, Shantanu Tyagi from Saharanpur, along with two others, remains absconding. Seven suspects have already been arrested in connection with the case.
