Patiala district administration started unique campaign from villages

To promote reading habits among the rural masses, the Department of Rural Development and Panchayat, Government of Punjab and Patiala District Administration have introduced a unique idea of setting up of small libraries. In the first phase, five villages of each block to have these libraries in Patiala District.

Terming it as a Diwali bonanza for the villages, the Chairperson of Zila Parishad Raj Kaur and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Dr.  Preeti Yadav while handing over 15 libraries to the chairpersons of Panchayat Samitis of the district, said that these libraries were in the shape of small wooden shelved frames in which books would be kept. These small libraries could also be placed in a common place in the villages for easy access to the books.

Raj Kaur said that these libraries were being provided to the villages by the Punjab Government under the 15th Finance Commission under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh so that the people and especially our children and youth could enjoy reading.  Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Dr.  Mrs. Preeti Yadav said that these libraries were being provided in the villages under the direction of Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa to create interest in reading books and literature among the people.  She further said that these small libraries could be set up at Panchayat houses, schools or other common places so that people could benefit from the knowledge through books.

Chairpersons of the variuos Block Samities; Ashwani Batta Sanour, Tarsem Singh Jhandi Patiala, Sarabjit Singh Rajpura, Archana Rani Shambhu Kalan, Soni Singh Samana,  Kirna Rani Patran, Assistant Commissioner (IAS UT) Dr.  Nirmal Ossepachan, Deputy CEO Zila Parishad Roop Singh, BDPOs Gurinder Singh Tung and Krishan Singh were also present.
