Efforts to bring to the justice guilty NRI grooms-Manisha

PATIALA-Punjab State Women Commission Chairperson Manisha Gulati has today said that around 26,000 cases of Punjabi brides, harassed by NRI grooms, are pending for hearing with the commission and all possible efforts are being made to provide justice to them.

After inspecting the situation and listening to the problems faced by women inmates of the Patiala central jail, Gulati said, “We are in constant coordination with the Canada and Australia’s High Commission to solve the problems caused by NRI bridegrooms and the commission will contact with foreign departments of other countries to permanently solve this menace.”

She categorically said that the commission will urge the religious heads to keep with them the copies of social security number of the countries including all supporting documents of the NRI grooms prior to wedding ceremony so that they can easily traced in case of fraud. She also said, “The decision to take services of Saanjh Kendras is on anvil to provide justice to Punjabi brides, victims of domestic violence.”

During her visit to Patiala Central Jail, Gulati especially inspected the ladies cell, skill development center and Crèche and interacted with the female prisoners. Expressing satisfaction over the food and other facilities provided to the inmates & their children and cleanliness in the women cell, she stressed to adopt this model in other jails of the state.

On the occasion, Senior Superintendent of Patiala Jail Rajan Kapoor, Additional Superintendent  Gurcharan Singh, SDM Patiala Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, SP City Kesar Singh and other officers were also present.
