IIT  Ropar organised AICTE-ATAL  sponsored Faculty Development

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT}Ropar has inaugurated a two-week All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy sponsored Online Faculty Development Programme entitled “Computational and Experimental Analysis of Advanced Materials and Structures” on 17th October, 2022. Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar inaugurated this hybrid FDP. This hybrid FDP is being coordinated by Dr. Sachin Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Ropar.

The course is being attended by 49 participants from different Institutes/Universities across the country. The FDP is focused to impart knowledge and skills in the field of structural fracture and damage analysis using different numerical and experimental approaches like finite element method (FEM), XFEM, meshfree methods and high imaging techniques etc. Experts in the field of Structural Engineering have been invited from different Institutes to share their knowledge in the subject matter. On the inauguration day, Dr. R.K. Tripathi, Scientist DRDO delivered talk on Human values and personal excellence followed by Dr. Mohit Tyagi NIT Jalandhar who gave a talk on Parametric optimization for material selection.

ATAL academies have been established by AICTE to look after these training programmes. Main objective of these academies is to plan and help in imparting quality technical education in the country and to support technical institutions in fostering research, innovation and entrepreneurship through training in various emerging areas.
