Three MRS-PTU teachers among top scientists of world: Stanford Study

Three scientists of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRS-PTU), Bathinda have been listed in the World ranking of top 2 per cent Best Scientists in an independent study conducted by the Stanford University (USA).

One of the most prestigious Universities in the World, Stanford University (USA) has recently released a list of Top 2% Best Scientists for the year 2021.

Dr. Kawaljit Singh Sandhu, Dean Academic Affairs –cum-head Department of Food Science and Technology,  Dr. Ashish Baldi, Dean Research and Development  from Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology and Dr. Munish Jindal from Department of Computational Sciences (MRS-PTU), Bathinda made the university proud by getting featured among Top 2% Best scientists across the globe in “Food Science, Pharmacy and Computational Sciences domains respectively.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Sandhu and Dr. Baldi secured the place in the  prestigious list for the last 3 consecutive years  .

Dr. Kanwaljit Singh Sandhu. Dr. Ashish Baldi and Dr. Munish Kumar Jindal set benchmarks in teaching & research in their respective fields.

Dr. Sandhu is actively involved in research and to his credit 5 books and more than 100 publications in the journals of repute. His h index and citations are 38 and 6006, respectively in Google Scholar, 28 and 3635, respectively in Scopus. He acclaimed  22nd rank  in Food Science category in India

Dr. Sandhu has received grants worth more than Rs. 3 crores from different funding agencies including University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and Punjab State Council of Science and Technology. He was also awarded “Young Scientist Award” by Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India) as well as by Punjab Academy of Sciences. He is presently working on de-bittering of Kinnow juice, starch applications, antioxidants, and 3 D printing in food.

Dr. Ashish Baldi is known globally in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences due to his 16 patents/IPRs, 2 technologies transferred to Industries, more than 140 publications, 12 major research grants by Govt. of India, 12 books and over 150 talks/presentations. He is presently working on burning issues of Punjab like farmer’s sustenance through medicinal plant cultivation, breast cancer, Pharma product development and other projects of National importance based on artificial intelligence and quality-by-design Techniques for affordable healthcare.

He is also Chief Mentor of BCL-AICTE Idea Lab at University and received a grant of 1.11 crore for this.

He has been ranked 1885 worldwide in the Pharmacy and Pharmacology field.

Dr. Munish Jindal research interests include Character Recognition, Handwriting Recognition, Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition. He has published 5 patents, 3 benchmark datasets, 4 books, and more than 140 research articles in the reputed international journals and conference proceedings. He is CO-PI for one research project. His H-index and citations are 29 and 2988, respectively in Google Scholars, 22 and 1944, respectively, in Scopus. Dr. Jindal has guided six Ph.D students and four are in process. He has been awarded for best article in conference and also awarded “YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD” in 2020.

Another prominent Alumni of Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology, MRSPTU, Dr. Harpreet Singh, now working in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar also finds a place in the list in the field of “Materials”. Some other prominent alumni also of the institute also figured in this prominent list of scientists.

MRS-PTU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu, Registrar  Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar, senior faculty and staff  congratulated them for bringing laurels to the university through their research publications.

The VC said, “This achievement has brought great pride to the Institute. I congratulate all scientists and their hard work and commitment to furthering science by excellent research work.”

He stated that their achievement will inspire young scientists and scholars to perform better. It will motivate the entire MRS-PTU faculty to set a benchmark in the field of education & research, he added.

It is noteworthy that the MRSPTU was established in 2015, however, its research related activities are at par with the established Universities of the region.
