ECOSIKH volunteers promoting Green Diwali campaign

Diwali is a festival of lights. It’s not a festival of smoke. Supporting the same, volunteers of ECOSIKH, at Patiala has started a eco-friendly campaign appealing the citizens, children to say no to crackers and celebrate a green Diwali, in a bid to raise awareness against mounting of pollution level during the festival.
The volunteers of EcoSikh had awareness placard which had slogans written on them. They spoke to people and passers-by and requested them to say no to crackers at Patiala’s business hub Anardana Chowk , Adalat Bazar.
Under the campaign, team members appealed people not to burst crackers and aware them about the consequences of pollution. The members also tried to spread awareness against the noise and air pollution due to bursting of crackers.
“On bursting, fire crackers discharge a huge amount of chemicals like Copper, Potassium, Sodium etc. which are not good for human health, environment .
Burning of crackers leads to diseases like Asthama, skin allergy, Headache, ,irritation in eyes ,breathing issues, High Blood Pressure” said Amarinder Pal Singh, volunteer of ECOSIKH.
Sukhwinder Singh, a student of Guru Nanak Foundation Public school, Patiala who voluntarily participating in the campaign said “we have received a healthy response from the people. They came at their own, hold placards carrying Green Diwali messages and help us in creating awareness about Green Diwali”.
