YPS, Patiala clinched 31st Col Frank Von Goldstein memorial debate trophy

YPS, Patiala students won the prestigious Col Frank Von Goldstein Memorial Debate trophy. The final round of the 3-day debate was held yesterday evening in the Captain Amarinder Singh auditorium. As many as 14 schools from all over India participated in this battle of words. The event was witnessed by the school authorities, YPS Staff, students and the proud parents of the participants.
The event was graced by the chief guest, Lt Gen (Dr.) J S Cheema, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd.), Vice Chancellor, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Sports University, Patiala. The Hardliner and the final debate were conducted yesterday. This 3-day competition was split into four phases: Preliminary, Quarter, Semi-Final and Final. Four teams had qualified for the semi-finals and hardliner debate after defeating other teams in previous rounds. The two teams to reach the final round of debate were Yadavindra Public School, Patiala and Bhawan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh.
There was a Hardliners debate before the final round of debate. Armed Forces Preparatory Institute, Mohali and Welham Girls’ School, Dehradun were the participants in the Hardliners debate. The topic was “War on Terror is a lost cause”. After speaking against the motion, Welham Girls’ School, Dehradun won the Hardliner debate.
In the final round of debate, Yadavindra Public School, Patiala and Bhawan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh debated on the topic “Destiny, thy name is chance”, but the arguments made by Yadavindrians against the topic helped them clinch the winning trophy.
