GNDU’s Department of Law organised national seminar

Department of Laws, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, successfully conducted a National Seminar on “The Expanding Horizons of New Criminal Laws: Issues and Challenges” on November 8, 2024 (Friday). The seminar was held in an online mode, attracting 141 participants from across India and abroad.

The inaugural session, held from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, set the tone for the day’s deliberations. Nine technical sessions, divided into two slots (12:00 PM – 1:30 PM [5 parallel technical sessions] and 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM [4 parallel technical sessions]), provided a platform for experts and researchers to share their insights on the evolving landscape of criminal laws.

The inaugural session was graced by esteemed dignitaries. The seminar was conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The welcome address was given by Dr. Meenu Verma, Head, Department of Laws, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar who welcomed the guests and participants. The Chief Guest of the session was Sh. Amardeep Singh Bains, Civil Judge (Senior Division) and Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar. The Keynote speaker was Prof. (Dr.) Mehraj Uddin Mir, Chair Prof. of Moti Lal Nehru Chair, K.R. Mangalam University, Gurgaon. The Guest of Honour was Prof. (Dr.) Jyoti Rattan, Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh. At last the vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Pawan Kumar, Department of Laws, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. All these dignitaries enlightened the faculty , students and paper presenters on the New Criminal Laws: Changes, impacts and its relevance in the current scenario.

The seminar’s coordinators were Dr. Shikha Dhiman and Dr. Nidhi, and Co – coordinators Dr. Manjit Singh and Dr. Vinod Kumar, ensured the smooth execution of the event.

“We are thrilled with the overwhelming response to our call for abstracts, receiving submissions from all over India and beyond”, said Dr. Shikha Dhiman, Seminar Coordinator. This seminar has provided a vital platform for discussing the complexities and challenges of new criminal laws, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among academics, practitioners, and students.
