Indian opener Rohit Sharma today became the ‘King of Sixes’ as he past Chris Gayle’s tally of 553 sixes (all three formats combined).
Rohit Sharma also became the fastest Indian to smash a century in ICC World Cup on just 63 balls, a record previously held by legend Kapil Dev, who smashed a World Cup century in 72 balls.
During today’s ICC World Cup Match with Afghanistan, Rohit Sharma broke Chris Gayle’s record for the most sixes in international cricket. Rohit Sharma started the knock on Wednesday with 551 sixes and he raced past Gayle’s tally of 553 and smashed 555 sixes in his 453rd match.
Chasing a stiff 273 given by Afghanistan, Rohit gave India a perfect start and went to complete his half-century in just 30 deliveries. Rohit Sharma made 131 in just 84 balls as India beat Afghanistan by 8 wickets with 15 overs to spare.

Rohit Sharma was also closing in 300 sixes in ODI cricket. Only two batters have hit more sixes than him in the 50-over format of the game. Chris Gayle has 331 while Shahid Afridi finished his career with 351 sixes.
The six also saw the Indian skipper complete 1000 runs in World Cups. He took 19 innings to reach the milestone, same as Australian opener David Warner. In the process he also overtook the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly among the Indian batters. Sachin Tendulkar (20) and AB de Villiers (20) are the second fastest followed by Viv Richards (21) and Sourav Ganguly (21).
