AI-based Education to Begin from Class 6; Punjab Advancing in the Education Sector – Harjot Singh Bains

During a function organized at Virasat-e-Khalsa under Bright Minds Punjab 2026, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains and former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia interacted directly with students and teachers. On this occasion, while honouring outstanding talents, detailed discussions were also held on the reforms taking place in the field of education.
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced that from the current academic session, education through Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology will be introduced in government schools starting from Class 6. He said that it is very important to connect students with new technologies to make them compatible with the changing times. He also informed that, to ensure transparency in the examination system, answer sheets will now be made available online for the convenience of students.
Harjot Singh Bains said that Punjab has emerged as a leading state in the field of education in the country. He claimed that, in terms of education, Punjab’s Patiala District has surpassed even districts considered more advanced, such as Gurugram. He said that the progress of the country is possible only on the basis of education.
On this occasion, Manish Sisodia, former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and Punjab In-charge, said that large-scale changes are needed in the existing education system. He emphasized that it is essential to ensure quality education reaches every household and every child, because the progress of any country depends on its education system. Referring to statistics, he said that there is still a deficiency in the quality of education in the country, which needs to be addressed.

Sisodia also said that while AI will create new jobs in the future, it will also affect some traditional jobs. Therefore, preparing students for new technologies is the need of the hour. He also stressed the need for reforms in the examination system, syllabus, and teaching methods, and said that preventing cheating is the responsibility of both the government and teachers. During his address, Manish Sisodia interacted directly with students and sought the opinions of students and teachers regarding reforms in the education structure.
Education Secretary Sonali Giri, while addressing the students, said that success can be achieved only through hard work, discipline, and innovative thinking. During the function, students also demonstrated their participation in educational reforms through their questions and suggestions.
On this occasion, Sukhpal Singh (SDM), Jashandeep Singh (DSP), Prem Kumar Mittal (District Education Officer), Shamsher Singh (Deputy District Education Officer), Daya Singh (Education Coordinator), Seema Jassal (Stage Coordinator), Sarpanch Channan Singh Pammu Dhillon, and Kulwinder Singh were present.
