Another initiative by Women Studies Centre; organized “Self-Defence Training” for Punjabi University girl students

Women Studies Centre, Punjabi University Patiala organized one day Workshop on “Self-Defence Training” for Girl Students of Five Year Integrated courses being run by the University, on 20 October 2022. Vice Chancellor Prof Arvind in his Presidential remarks said that it’s an  endeavour to minimize the women harassment cases and crime against women in the University.  He said that to make campus women friendly, it is need of the hour to conduct such workshops as these aim at making girl students  self defendant.

SSP Patiala Deepak Pareek, IPS said that girl students need to be studying in a fearless environment. He further added that exercise and practice of self-defence techniques should be made a regular habit so that one can live a courageous life. On the occasion, he initiated the launch of “Suggestion Cum Complaint Box” which will extend an opportunity to the students to anonymously put in their complaints, out of which genuine complaints will be addressed by the relevant police personnel on regular basis. The “Suggestion Cum Complaint Box” was launched by Vice Chancellor Prof Arvind to be installed in the University.

SP Harwant Kaur, DSP Hardeep Singh and DSP Crime Against Women (CAW) Chand Singh were also present.

Pushpa Devi , Incharge Women Education Cell Punjab Police educated girl participants on issues like Women safety, traffic rules, controlling drug abuse and cyber crime.

Another initiative by Women Studies Centre; organized “Self-Defence Training” for Punjabi University girl students.Dr Ritu Lehal Director Women Studies Centre formally welcomed the guests. She said that such workshops are being organized on regular basis aiming at enabling the girl students to protect themselves and move freely at any given time as despite being taken relevant measures , cases of crime against women are on the increase which includes the cases of sexual violence, acid attacks and domestic violence  etc.  Workshop  on self defence training of girl students of the campus in Collaboration with Punjab Police.  will keep girls alert, fit and ready to face any untoward incident in their life.

All the girl participants enthusiastically learnt  various methods to deal with crimes .
