Anticipatory bail-another setback for Bikram Singh Majithia

In another setback for Bikram Singh Majithia, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has once again defer his anticipatory bail plea. Now, the court will hear again hear on his bail application on January 10,2022.Bikram Majithia is on a run.

The hearing of Bikram Singh Majithia’s anticipatory bail petition was adjourned for today as his counsel, Mukul Rohatgi, was not available for a physical hearing on the last hearing date.Today senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi represented Bikram Majithia and P. Chidambran represented Punjab government in a virtual hearing on the case.

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who was booked under the NDPS Act, by Punjab police in December 2021 moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking anticipatory bail with a plea that “to target the applicant/petitioner is one of the major election planks of the current government” led by the Congress in Punjab.

The plea, moved by Majithia’s counsels Damanbir Singh Sobti and Arshdeep Singh Cheema. A Mohali court on December 24 had dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Majithia.

An FIR was lodged against former cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia in a drug case at the State Crime Police Station, Mohali. According to police sources, the case has been registered under Sections 25, 27A and 29 of the NDPS based on a report filed by ADGP Harpreet Sidhu.

Majithia is the brother-in-law of shiromani akali dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal and brother of ex-union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, and he had earlier denied all charges against him. Asof now the legislator has reportedly gone underground to evade arrest as the centre issued a lookout circular against him, to prevent him from escaping abroad.
