DEO Patiala calls students from class 8 onwards to witness Republic day function at 8 am in bone chilling weather

District education officer (senior secondary), Patiala has issued a letter to all the principals, heads of senior secondary, secondary, middle school to bring the school children at local polo ground to celebrate the state level Republic day function on January 26,2024 in this bone chilling cold weather at 8:00 in the morning.

“The DEO has issued these orders on the instructions from deputy commissioner, Patiala. The ground is open, while the weather is too harsh to stand out there for more than four in the chilly morning. The school children are used as fillers” said an educationist on the condition of anonymity.

As per program , the Governor will arrive at 9:58 am polo ground to Unfurl the National Flag on Republic Day and will depart at 11:55 am. The schools principals, heads are instructed to remain at the venue till the chief guest depart.

The school children are instructed to reach the venue at 8:00 and not to leave the venue till 12:00 noon in this bone chilling weather.

The order reads: “As the Republic Day event will be organised at the polo ground, Patiala, to be presided over by Governor Banwari Lal Purohit, you are requested to bring the schoolchildren to the venue by 8.00am on January 26 and send teachers along to keep them in discipline. The students must wear neat school dress  ”

When contacted DEO, Patiala Harinder kaur she said ” its a part of their education, an activity. Students from government, private, aided schools are instructed to attend this state level function. We have asked the schools to send 50-60 students for this function.”

Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner Ludhiana has reduced the number of schools, students who are asked earlier to attend the Republic day function at Ludhiana where the chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is going to unfurl the national flag.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday forecasted that very dense fog conditions are likely to continue to prevail over North India during next 4 days.

The IMD also warned of severe cold day conditions prevailing over North India during next 2 days . The IMD issued orange alert in Punjab and other Northern states till 28 January. The department has predicted very dense fog conditions likely to prevail in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh during 25 to 28 January.
