Go kart design challenge-Thapar Institute’s Oorja team brings laurels

At 6th Go kart design challenge G.K.D.C-2019 held at Buddh international Circuit, a team from TIET named Oorja among 180 teams brought laurels to the institute. Despite vigorous competition from NIT Surat and IET Lucknow, the team made a significant mark thereby having a red-letter day.
The team grabbed second position (Runners up) all over India. 4 out of 5 trophies were earned by team Oorja (Best Autocross TROPHY, Best Captain TROPHY, Best Driver TROPHY and Best Business plan TROPHY). Apart from this, the team gained first position in Cost report, second position in Endurance race; Engineering design and Acceleration and third position for Disassembly.
Team Oorja comprises of a group of staunch individuals passionate about technology under the leadership of Abhishek Gupta and the driving skills of Shivam Panwar. The team was founded in 2016 by Bhanu Marwaha comprising of 12 members under the able guidance of Dr. Gagandeep Kaur of Electrical and Instrumentation department. In a short span of time the column of achievements has grown profusely. The team started its venture with the EFFI Cars electric competition in 2016 where engineering students from all over India participated with their fabricated electric vehicles. The team won the best design award.
In 2017-18 the team designed and fabricated a Go-kart for G.K.D.C- 2018 where teams participated from all over the country. The team performed well and secured 26th rank out of 190 teams and the vehicle fetched 2nd best acceleration position. The team members were extremely happy with their achievement and are enthusiastic for their future endeavours.
