On March 21,2025, in a major organizational reshuffle, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had handed senior leader Manish Sisodia the crucial responsibility of Punjab Prabhari (incharge) , signaling a renewed push for governance and transformation in the state. The decision, approved by AAP’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) on March 21,2025 was chaired by National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, underscored the party’s commitment to its vision of a progressive Punjab.
Now, speculations are rife that with his appointment, Manish Sisodia may be nominated by the aam aadmi party (AAP) for Rajya Sabha seat, to be vacated by Sanjeev Arora.
As per available information, in Assam 2 seats are going to be vacated on June 14,2025 and in Tamil Nadu 6 seats are going to be vacated on July 24,2025. 4 seats of Jammu and Kashmir and 1 seat in Andhra Pradesh are already vacant. So, it is expected that the election commission will start the process of filing the vacant seats in upcoming days.
AAP leaders who managed Punjab affairs Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak are already Rajya Sabha MPs from Punjab.
“The party has already announced the candidature of Sanjeev Arora for Ludhiana bye-election. With the party’s decision to field Arora from Ludhiana assembly seat, the Rajya Sabha seat will get vacated. For that, the party is going to adjust Manish Sisodia and will send him to Rajya Sabha (Upper House) as he is only senior colleague of Arvind Kejriwal who remained powerless after Delhi’s defeat. The party has given him the responsibility of Punjab with an aim to adjust him after his defeat in the recently held Delhi’s assembly elections” said a political analysist Narinder Sharma.
He further added that “ Arvind Kejriwal is already enjoying all the facilities, leverages in Delhi as he is a convenor, head of a national party, former chief minister of Delhi. Other key party leaders like Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak were already adjusted as Rajya Sabha MPs. Sisodia remain unadjusted after Delhi’s fiasco. So, Arvind Kejriwal has sent Manish Sisodia to Punjab by appointing him as party’s state incharge. In coming days he will be nominated to Rajya Sabha from Punjab. After his selection, he Sisodia will have all the facilities, officially.”
Punjab has seven Rajya Sabha members including Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, Balbir Singh Seechewal, Vikramjit Singh Swahney. The seventh member Sanjeev Arora will resign and pave the way to Manish Sisodia.
