Every year on November 1, Punjab government in association with Punjab Languages department celebrates “Punjab Maah” to promote Punjabi language.
Like every year, the government had announced that “the Languages Department has decided to observe November as ‘Punjabi Maah’ dedicated to the Mother language Punjabi. Under the same, State and District level events would be organized throughout the State for the month regarding various forms of literature.
Besides, functions would also be held dedicated to those who have enriched the Punjabi language with their writings. It was disclosed by the Higher Education and Languages Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer in mid October, this year.
Hayer added that “the Punjabi Maah would begin on November 1 in a State level function at the Bhasha Bhawan, Patiala after which daily programmes would follow at different places all across Punjab. The concluding event is scheduled for November 30. As many as 7 State level while the rest would be District level events and every district would get to host atleast one event.”
The Principal Secretary had declared that “apart from holding literary events during the inaugural ceremony of the Punjabi Maah, Best Punjabi book prize would also be distributed. A State level book exhibition would also be held from November 1 to 7 at Patiala. Besides, dramas would be staged by the drama parties and chat sessions would be organized with the upcoming writers. A ‘Punjabi Bhasha Chetna’ rally would also be held at the District level on November 1.”
As per available information, Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann has given his consent to inaugurate the “Punjab Maah-2022” function, as Mann is fully committed to propagate the Punjabi language.
As per unconfirmed reports, the state language department has spent lakhs of rupees for this function. They even renovate their offices as the chief minister is supposed to visit the head office of Punjab languages department.
“Punjab Maah 2022” program is scheduled to be inaugurated today at 10:00 am. But, all efforts, preparations go in vain on the inaugural function itself as Chief Minister cancelled his visit at eleventh hour and preferred to go to Phagwara to inaugurate newly built mother and child care hospital.
After the cancellation of CM’s visit, higher education minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer is supposed to preside over the function at 10:00 am. To an utter surprise, Meet Hayer reached the function venue at around 12:15 pm, 2:15 hours late.
Has AAP started taking things lightly after seven months? CM skips; minister reaches two hour late in state level function. Even no MLA from Patiala parliamentary constituency came to attend this state level function to promote “Punjabi.”
As per available information only MLA Patiala (urban) came along with minister Meet Hayer to attend the function.
All the writers, scholars, dignitaries were left distressing when they came to know that CM is not coming.
