Under the guidance of Dr. D.K. Singh, Director, AIIMS Bathinda, the Department of Pathology and Department of Paediatrics co-organised World Hemophilia Day. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Akhilesh Pathak, Dean and Dr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta, Medical Superintendent, AIIMS Bathinda along with  President and vice-president Hemophilia advocacy society and representatives of Tree lover society, Bathinda.

The special guests of the event included the children suffering from Hemophilia along with their parents. The event was attended by distinguished faculty members, resident doctors and MBBS students.

The event was commenced by tree-plantation by the haemophilic children in the august presence of worthy Director.

During the event, Dr. Manjit Kaur Rana, Nodal Officer, Hemophilia, AIIMS Bathinda explained about the pathogenesis of disease and the facilities available for treatment at the institute, which include Factor VII, Factor VIII and alternative therapies.

She also shared the developments made in management of Hemophiliac patients since the last meet.  Dr. Prashant Chhabra (DM Paediatric Haemato-oncology), Assistant Professor, Department of Paediatrics, explained about the various clinical features, treatment modalities, challenges faced and increasing awareness in the society regarding the disease and its complications. He also shared information on the department’s Hemophilia out-patient services.

Dr. Harmeet Kaur, Associate Professor, Department of Radiodiagnosis and Dr. Chandrakant Pilania, Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, imparted valuable information on diagnosis of complications and  rehabilitation methods in Hemophilia patients.

Hemophilia Day at AIIMS Bathinda: Haemophilic children planted tree, doctors shared rehabilitation methods. To encourage young Hemophilia patients, inspiring and motivating stories were shared by budding doctors of the institute who suffer from the same disease and overcame its challenges.

The function was concluded by a vote of thanks by Dr. Prashant Chhabra, Assistant Professor, Department of Paediatrics, AIIMS Bathinda.

Hemophilia is usually an inherited bleeding disorder in which the blood does not clot properly. This can lead to spontaneous bleeding as well as bleeding following injuries or surgery.
