The faculty of Government Medical and Dental Colleges of Patiala and Amritsar has strongly opposed the selection by lateral entry of senior faculty including Professors and Associate Professors under direct quota in medical dental colleges and has demanded from the state government to stop this practice with immediate effect which will not only block the promotion of the faculty already in service but will also place the selected candidates above them in seniority.
The doctors in Government Medical and Dental Colleges in Patiala who can get affected by selection of senior faculty under direct quota, in the general body meeting called by Punjab State Medical & Dental Teachers Association (PSMDTA) have decided not to allow selection of professors and associate professors by lateral entry under direct quota.
In a joint press release, State President of PSMDTA Dr. DS Bhullar and State Coordinator Dr. Darshanjit Singh Walia said except in Medical Education & Research Department, there is no other department in Punjab where officers are promoted under direct quota at all levels. Even in Health and Family Welfare Department, this practice has been stopped long back where direct entry to the cadre is being done as medical officers.
We have been demanding from the Punjab Government for selection of the faculty in medical dental colleges under the direct quota only at the entry level as assistant professors but the state government has failed to recognised our genuine demand and in the general body meeting it has been decided that the faculty will work under protest till the recently notified advertisement for selection of faculty under direct quota is withdrawn and rectified.
Medical Dental Doctors demand No Lateral Entry of Senior Faculty; student will be boss of his teacher. In case the state government does not take the corrective measures, we will be left with no option except to intensify our protest or take the legal recourse which can hamper the selection process for which the state government will be directly held responsible. The Association will like to take up the matter with Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Mann to apprise him about this ongoing unchecked process of the selection of medical dental teachers only in the Medical Education & Research Department.
