Minister visits scam site; case registered against responsible officer

The Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Forest & Wildlife Preservation Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak today said that the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will not tolerate any kind of corruption.
Kataruchak today visited the open plinth of PUNSUP located on Patiala-Devigarh road and took stock of the financial loss of Rs. 3 crores due to around 20 thousand wheat bags scam that came into light few days ago. The Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Medical Education and Research and Elections Department Chetan Singh Jouramajra was also present there.
On the occasion, Kataruchak was apprised about the matter by PUNSUP Managing Director Amrit Kaur Gill and District Manager Amit Kumar. He also interacted with the field staff of the department and gave instructions to increase the scope of investigation in this matter. The Minister of Food Supply said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan will deal strictly with such scammers and other responsible officials and employees involved in corrupt practices.
The Minister of Food Supply also said that a police case has been registered against Inspector Gurinder Singh, who is responsible for the scam. He said that those involved in this case, whether they are government officials or political persons, will be exposed and given exemplary punishment.
Lal Chand Kataruchak said that in the past, the government of the traditional parties had a free hand and destroyed the economy of Punjab. Therefore, some people including politicians had been indulging in corrupt practices but the present Punjab government will not spare such elements at any cost.
Kataruchak further pointed out that the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has vowed at Shaheed-e-Azam S. Bhagat Singh’s ancestral village to provide better government and good administration to the people and fulfil their wishes while adopting a policy of zero tolerance against corruption.
The government will fulfil its promise of providing a corruption-free, good and transparent governance to the people, and by taking tough decisions, it will also be completely successful in preventing such incidents from happening in the future.

On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (c) Gurpreet Singh Thind, D.F.O. Vidya Sagari, SDM Dr Ismat Vijay Singh, District Food and Civil Supplies Controller Ravinder Kaur and other officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department were also present.
