Pargat Singh lambasts AAP govt over the issue of illegal mining in Punjab

Bahadurjeet Singh/Rupnagar,May 29,2024
Senior Congress leader and MLA Pragat Singh has  accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab of failing to curb the menace of illegal minning in the state.

Pargat Singh along with Youth Congress leader Brinder Singh Dhillon were here to address a press conference.

It may be mentioned that two days back , Brinder Dhillon, along with the villagers of Agampur, raided a site where alleged illegal mining was being done. At the site, many machines and tippers were present, and the police have registered a case against 11 tippers and 3 proclaims.

Pragat Singh questioned Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann about his so-called “honest government.” Singh pointed out that Mann often claims to be aware of everything happening in Punjab, yet he seems oblivious to the rampant illegal mining. Singh alleged that thousands of crores of funds generated from illegal mining are lining the pockets of AAP leaders and funding their election campaigns. He also highlighted that illegal mining has already caused one bridge to collapse, and the current activities threaten another bridge.

Singh raised concerns about the severe ecological impact of illegal mining on Punjab and criticized the government for its lack of action.

Brinder Dhillon questioned the alleged silence of Rupnagar MLA Dinesh Chadha who was previously known for filing RTIs on various issues but now he has become mute spectator to activities of minning mafia in the area for the reason best known to him.

Dhillon also mentioned that Bhagwant Mann was currently in Nurpur Bedi , an area notorious for illegal mining, and challenged him to address the issue instead of merely engaging in public performances.

Both the leaders said that they would file complaint to Election Commission of India (ECI) to take action in the illegal minning in the state immediately.
