Patiala’s newly appointed district health officer in action mode; conducts checking of famous food joints

Food safety team of the Patiala district health department under the command of newly appointed district health officer (DHO) Dr Gurpreet Kaur carried out extensive food sampling in the royal city on holiday and seized samples of various food items.
As per available information, Dr Gurpreet Kaur , DHO, Patiala had joined this week only and on the first day of long weekend holidays she inspected famous eating joints of Patiala. She even challan two eating joints for discrepancies and not following the proper food safety norms. The food safety team under her command had taken 5 samples from eating joints.
A team member on the condition of anonymity said “Quality of various food items and their expiry dates was checked. Shopkeepers were briefed on the Food Safety Act, instructed to follow the guidelines issued by the district administration and health department from time to time, ensure cleanliness of the area, stock unadulterated items and dispose of products after date of expiry.”

The member of the food safety team added that the checks were not to harass people but to ensure that clean and quality food items were made available to people. As per sources, the team had checked famous south Indian food joints at Sheranwala Gate, a renowned bakery at Anardana Chowk.
District Health Officer Dr Gurpreet Kaur said the checking exercise is done to provide adulteration-free food items to people in the district. She said adulteration would not be tolerated in the district at any cost and strict action would be taken against those playing with the health of residents under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
After filling the samples, the officials sent those samples for testing.
