Perfect example of ‘Babugiri’: Punjab’s IAS officer who was on deputation gets extension in tenure after joining home state

The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has issued an order on September 20,2024 approving the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for extension of tenure of Anindita Mitra , Punjab Cadre 2007 IAS officer to the post of Commissioner Municipal Corporation, UT, Chandigarh for a period of three months beyond August 22,2024, after she rejoined her state cadre .

The three-year tenure of municipal corporation commissioner, CEO of Chandigarh Smart City Limited Anindita Mitra ended on August 23,2024 . No word on her extension from the MHA was received till her last working day. With a hope to receive an extension, UT administration also did not issue her relieving orders to allow her to return to her parent Punjab cadre.

To avoid relieving, Mitra even proceeded on 25-day leave. After waiting for around a month and getting no response on her extension, Mitra rejoined her parent state, Punjab.

On September 12,2024, the Punjab government had appointed her as secretary cooperation and in addition Managing Director,The Punjab State Cooperative Bank Limited.

Mitra, a Punjab cadre IAS officer, had joined as MC Commissioner, Chandigarh on August 23, 2021, for a three-year term, becoming the first regular IAS officer from Punjab to serve on the post.
