Punjab State Medical & Dental Teachers Association (PSMDTA) has urged the newly elected state government led by Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Singh Mann to allocate the portfolios of the departments of Health & Family Welfare and Medical Education & Research under one minister unlike in the past wherein these two departments were allocated to two separate ministers and these departments should be led by one of the senior doctors who have been elected as the members of the legislative assembly in the just concluded elections.
In a joint press release, state President of the association (PSMDTA) Dr. DS Bhullar, state General Secretary Dr. Jaspreet Singh Kauldhar and state coordinator Dr. Darshanjit Singh Walia said that with the two departments’ jointly under one minister, will facilitate day to day functioning and better coordination in both.
The issues relating to the PCMS doctors working in both these departments and the ongoing national health programs will be better addressed under one minister. Similarly the minister with medical background will be able to better understand and address the issues relating to health and medical education for streamlining the health and medical services in the state.
The association has also assured full cooperation to the newly elected government for the welfare and betterment of the patients and the people of the state, said the association leaders.
