PSPCL going to invite application for the post of CMD

In an utter surprise, Punjab government which has committed the to residents to give them cheap electricity, to cancel the PPAs with private players done by akali dal, has invited applications for the post of chairman cum managing director (CMD), after the new chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi takes the reins of chief minister of Punjab.
Now, the Punjab government has decided to appoint a technocrat in place of IAS officer as full-time chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).The power department is going to invite the application for the post of CMD ,till October 14,201. State government fixes the upper age limit of 65 years.
The power corporation assumes significance in the wake of provision of free power to the agricultural sector and the government’s upcoming decision to give subsided power to the needy domestic consumers.
This also holds significance , as a dispute between the powercom management and engineers association is going on, from the last many months.
For the post of CMD, a person should have served for a minimum period of 25 years in a central or state public utility or central electricity authority. After the receipt of applications, the process of short listing, selection and interview will start. It’s a lengthy process.
So, it may not be possible for the state government to take appropriate action against the faulty PPAs in such a short time, as by around December 20-22, 2021, the code of conduct may be imposed in the state.
The government wants to appoint a technocrat as the CMD as, at present senior bureaucrat A Venu Prasad (IAS) is holding the charge of its CMD, since June 2020.Earlier to A Venu Prasad, Er Baldev Singh Sra was appointed the CMD in June 2018. Sra was a technocrat.
