A total of 84 senior engineers have applied for these three posts including working and retired superintending engineers, chief engineers, engineer-in-chief. 30 power engineers have applied for the post of Director Distribution, 30 for Director Commercial and 24 for Director Technical.
As per information, Punjab government has made a three member selection committee to select the directors of Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) and Punjab state transmission corporation limited (PSTCL). The committee members include the chief secretary of Punjab VK Janjua, principal secretary power Tejveer Singh and CMD Power Finance Corporation (PFC) Ravinder Singh Dhillon to finalise the two or three names each for these posts. After the finalization of the panel, chief minister will finalise the engineer to head these posts.
As per sources today the third member CMD Power Finance Corporation (PFC) Ravinder Singh Dhillon didn’t join the selection committee meeting to select the director distribution and director commercial for Punjab state power corporation limited and director technical for Punjab state transmission corporation limited.
When contacted the principal secretary power Tejveer Sigh, IAS, he confirmed the postponement of today’s selection committee meeting. He added that “now we will fix next date to select the directors.”
On June 2,2022 the state government has extended the terms of these Directors for four months. Then again extended the term till first week of December,2022.
The ad-hocism in the power sector is creating uncertainty in power sector affecting the efficiency of Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) and Punjab state transmission corporation limited (PSTCL) as the important posts of directors distribution, director commercial , director administration in PSPCL and director technical and director administration in PSTCL , member Punjab state electricity regulatory commission (PSERC), chief electrical inspector (CEI) are not filled. Even the state has lost its claim on the member power in Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), happens first time in six decades.
An engineer on the condition of anonymity said the no new proposal or next year planning are being discussed in the PSPCL and PSTCL due to this ad-hocisim because the staff is reluctant to forward the proposal, plan to the existing directors, who are already on extended term. They fear that their plan, proposal might got dumped.
