Punjab bureaucrats in race for key posts after AAP formed government

Punjab bureaucrats –IAS,IPS,PCS,PPS and others has started their next inning- to get plum postings in the newly formed government in Punjab.

But the main dilemma they are facing is the right connection with the decision maker as most of the bureaucrats never imagined that they will ever have to face this kind of situation. For the last twenty years, both congress and akali dal ruled the state and most of the bureaucrats remained on key posts during their tenure.

Speculations are rife that Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh who resigned as inspector general of police along with key party leaders may play an important role in the selection of the bureaucrats on the key posts.

Arvind Kejriwal, himself a bureaucrat. He joined as an Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax in 1995 after clearing his civil services examination.

Some bureaucrats who remained neglected or remained on low key posts are cheerful as they are expecting plum postings in the Bhagwant singh Mann led AAP government.

At present Anirudh Tiwari a 1990 batch officer and is the chief secretary of the state. Whereas Ravneet Kaur, IAS is the senior most IAS officer of 1988 batch and is Special Chief Secretary. Than Vijay Kumar Janjua, Kripa Shankar Saroj both IAS are of 1989 batch officer and were also designated as special chief secretary.

The other officers are also trying to get posts in the inner circle, core team of the chief minister office, department secretaries, deputy commissioners, police chiefs, directors of boards-corporations etc.

VK Bhawra, who was recently appointed as DGP of the border state by the state government after the UPSC cleared his name is going to remain on the post, as his appointment is made for two years period.

Punjab bureaucrats in race for key posts after AAP formed government. In the last six months, after September 2021 major reshuffling in the bureaucratic circle was done, on regular basis in Punjab. From the day one when the outgoing chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi took over the reins of the state and till the last date of the election code of conduct imposed in the state.
