Punjab former chief minister’s right hand man in vigilance net; raids going on

Adopting a zero tolerance policy against corruption and irregularities under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Vigilance Bureau team today raided the right hand man and adviser to former chief minister Captain Amarinder, Bharat Inder Singh Chahal’s commercial properties.
Vigilance is probing corruption charges against Bharat Inder Singh Chahal and raided his Alcazar Marriage Palace on Patiala-Sirhind Road, his upcoming commercial building “Grand Regalia “near mini secretariat, Patiala along with others to ascertain the value the property. The team is measuring the building.
The state anti-corruption agency has opened a formal inquiry against Chahal in a disproportionate assets case. The vigilance team has started ascertaining the value of the property as Chahal had amassed property through unfair means while he was adviser to the then chief minister. Chahal was adviser with cabinet rank from 2017-21 when Captain Amarinder Singh was the Punjab chief minister. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party along with Captain Amarinder this July.
Few days ago, Patiala police had also reached Chahal’s Patiala residence in a hurried manner. At that time SP City Patiala Wazir Singh, DSP City along with CIA Incharge, SHO Kotwali, SHO Lahori Gate and SHO Sabzi Mandi police station reached the residence of Bharat Inder Singh Chahal .But they found him missing. Since then he is incommunicado, his phone has switched off and he is not traceable.
This is the second time that Chahal has been booked with the change of the guard in the state. In 2007, Chahal was booked for same corruption charges during the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP rule and faced a probe by the Vigilance Bureau. Now, again after the formation of Aam Aadmi Party in the state, vigilance has again start probing him for amassing property through unfair means while he was adviser to the former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s second term.
