Punjab govt Gazetted officer along with five others suspended by election commission for dereliction of poll duty

Six employees, including the BDPO (Block Development and Panchayat Officer) of Fatehgarh Churian, have been suspended by the District Election Officer for not properly implementing the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Fatehgarh Churian, which falls under the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat.

The Returning Officer-cum-District Election Officer, Gurdaspur has suspended Pargat Singh BDPO (Block Development and Panchayat Officer) , Kuljinder Singh VDO (Village Development Officer), Major Singh Panchayat Secretary, and William Masih, Sukhjit Singh and Shamsher Singh all Gram Rojgar Sevaks with immediate effect after receiving complaints of violation of MCC in their jurisdiction.

 

A complaint was received from the Fatehgarh Churian MLA that interlocking tiles were being installed in a government park, which was in violation of the MCC, a spokesperson  of the CEO office said. After investigating the matter, the complaint was found to be true and a notice was issued to the District President (Rural) of Aam Aadmi Party Gurdaspur in this regard. A letter has been written to the SSP to register a case against the representatives who put these tiles in the park and the Director of Rural Development and panchayats Department has been asked to take disciplinary action by suspending Om Prakash (manager-cum-VDO, Kala Afgana) and Kuldeep Singh (Panchayat Secretary, Kala Afgana) for not being able to enforce the MCC.

Punjab govt Gazetted officer along with five others suspended by election commission for dereliction of poll duty. Also, a case has been registered against Dilbagh Singh and Sukhwinder Singh on the complaint of distribution of cement benches in Baddowal Kalan village of Fatehgarh Churian.

CEO Sibin C appealed to all political parties and their representatives to ensure compliance of the MCC. He said that from the very first day of the implementation of the MCC, the entire administrative staff and the Police Department has been insisting that no code of conduct should be violated during the election campaign and to a large extent Punjab had been successful in this objective.

He stated that the polling is just a few hours away and hence all political parties, contesting candidates, representatives and supporters of political parties should abide by the MCC and set an example in this festival of democracy. Sibin C also motivated all the election officers, employees and security forces to ensure compliance of the MCC in the last phase of Lok Sabha elections-2024.
