The Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare is holding camps at various locations in Patiala tomorrow, 8th November, 2024, to help pensioners in submitting their life certificates through Face Authentication technology and thus streamline the process of submitting life certificates. The camps are being held at the State Bank of India’s branches at Mall Road and at Bhupinder Road; and at Samana Post Office near Gandhi Ground, Samana.

The camps are being held by the Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW), Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India as part of the Nationwide Digital Life Certificate Campaign 3.0. The Campaign 3.0, scheduled from November 1-30, 2024, will cover 800 locations across the country. Key partners include Banks, India Post Payments Bank, Pensioners’ Associations, UIDAI, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Railways and Department of Telecommunications.

Camps will be set up across cities to help pensioners with digital submissions and special arrangements including home visits are being made for super seniors or differently abled pensioners. Social media are being used to promote the campaign, with oversight from the DoPPW via the DLC Portal.

An official from the Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare will be visiting the various locations to assist pensioners in using various digital modes to submit their Life Certificates. In these camps, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will also assist pensioners in updating their Aadhaar records where required, and will also take care of any technical issues.

This method allows pensioners to submit certificates via Aadhaar-based recognition on Android smartphones.

Previously, pensioners were required to visit Pension Disbursing Authorities, which was often challenging for elderly individuals. In 2014, the Department introduced Digital Life Certificates (Jeevan Pramaan), and in 2021, Face Authentication technology. This advancement has eliminated the need for biometric devices, making the process more accessible.

In 2022, DoPPW organized a campaign across 37 locations, generating 1.41 crore Digital Life Certificates. The 2023 campaign expanded to 100 locations, with over 1.47 crore DLCs generated. The 2024 campaign being held in November aims to build on this success, with the aim of ensuring that even remote or limited-mobility pensioners benefit from the streamlined, accessible system of submitting life certificates.
