Retd IAS administered the oath of office as Chief Information Commissioner by President Murmu

The President of India administered the oath of office to Heeralal Samariya as Chief Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission at a ceremony held today (November 6, 2023) at 1000 hrs at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The top post of the transparency panel was lying vacant after Y K Sinha’s term ended on October 3.
Samariya, was born in a remote and small village Pahadi of Bharatpur District of Rajasthan. He is an IAS officer of 1985 batch, previously served as the Secretary to the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. His areas of expertise include administration and governance.
After Heeralal Samariya’s appointment as the Chief Information Commissioner, there exists a vacancy of eight Information Commissioners as out of maximum of 10 Information Commissioners at present, there are two Information Commissioners in the Commission.
