Strengthening Bonds: DIG Patiala Range Harcharan Singh Bhullar’s Initiative to Support Retired Police Personnel

In a significant move to foster camaraderie and mutual support, a range-level meeting was chaired today by DIG Patiala Range Harcharan Singh Bhullar, Patiala Range. The meeting, held on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and DGP Gaurav Yadav, included the participation of SSP Patiala Varun Sharma, SSP Sangrur Sartaj Singh Chahal, SSP Barnala Sandeep Kumar Malik, and SSP Malerkotla Dr. Simarat Kaur. More than 150 retired police personnel of ranks Inspector and above from the four districts attended the meeting.

This initiative aimed to bridge the gap between serving and retired police personnel. The discussions were highly productive and well-received, featuring an interactive feedback session. Key topics included establishing regular interactions at the police station level to ensure continuous engagement with retired personnel, maintaining a register of retired police personnel at each station, and conducting regular meetings with Senior Superintendents of Police to address concerns and suggestions.

DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar emphasized the importance of giving due respect to retired officers and directed the SSPs and other police officers to ensure this respect is maintained. Efforts to honor deceased ex-policemen, organize retirement parties, and appoint a nodal officer for retired police personnel were also discussed. Additional measures include providing fee concessions and job reservations in Police DAV Schools for the children of retired personnel, maintaining a special register for monitoring complaints by ex-policemen, and creating a WhatsApp group to facilitate communication and support.

The oversight of the DAV School committee by ADGP Srivastava , exempting retired police personnel from depositing their weapons during elections, improving healthcare facilities at Police Lines Hospital, and ensuring the timely clearance of medical bill claims for retired personnel were also covered. A crucial aspect highlighted was the help of retired police personnel in tackling the drug menace.
