T-12 Cricket Tournament Organised at DBU
Desh Bhagat University organized T-12 Cricket Tournament (Staff). A total of 8 teams from different faculties and departments participated in this tournament. The Final Match was played between the teams from Faculty of Ayurveda and Transport Department.
University Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur was the chief guest on this occasion, who tossed for the final match. She wished Good Luck to both teams. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh said that the objective of this tournament was to motivate the staff members to participate in sports activities so that they may inspire others to do so.
Earlier, 8 teams of different faculties and departments played their fixtures and showed their sports talent. After League and semi final matches, the Final of the tournament was particularly thrilling and breath-taking.
In the finals, Faculty of Ayurveda team won the toss and chooses fielding. First to bat, Captain Gurjinder and his team played well and scored 127 runs by losing 7 wickets in 12 over. All rounder Inderpal and Lucky scored 35 and 55 runs each respectively.
In reply to the given challenge of 128 runs, Faculty of Ayurveda Team openers Talvinder and Manpreet played excellently and scored 45 runs in just four overs. Both of them took the team to 80 runs without any loss. It seemed that Team Ayurveda may win this match easily. But, the Match turned in to a very interesting mode in last over. Only 12 runs were required in six balls, but this time fielders of team transport did their job excellently and they stopped the batsman on singles.
The Transport Department Team won the match by 5 runs and lifted the Trophy. Lucky was declared Man of the Match.
University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh presided over the Prize Distribution function and appreciated all players for excellent play. While congratulating the winning team and best players, he said that the important thing in a game is not to win or lose but to play in the true sportsman spirit.
