To bring better health services to people’s doorstep, the district Patiala administration has taken an exclusive initiative to create a WhatsApp group of Indian Medical Association (IMA) specialist doctors for providing the services of specialist doctors to the patients in the Aam Aadmi clinics.
Divulging the further details Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said that the Punjab government has started the Aam Aadmi Clinics under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and the health department and district administration have been working under the guidance of medical background health minister Dr Balbir Singh, whose medical experience is behind the WhatsApp group of specialist doctors of IMA Patiala along with the specialist doctors of the Government Hospitals.
She further said that the the model of WhatsApp group is working successfully as a pilot project in Dudhan Sadhan and Shutrana, Patran area’s Aam Aadmi Clinics. She said that it was the brainchild of Dr Balbir Singh who made liaison with IMA Patiala to reduce crowding in tertiary care hospitals and identify citizens’ diseases at their early stages for better treatment.

Swahney added that the WhatsApp group is rendering the specialist’s services, and with their advice, the patient can be referred to Rajindra Hospital or PGI in case of a serious condition.
For the success of this pilot project, Deputy Commissioner held a meeting with Civil Surgeon Dr Raminder Kaur, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr Jaswinder Singh and other health officials here today and discussed.
She said that so far through this WhatsApp group, the services of expert doctors have been taken by sharing the details of about two dozen patients suffering from eyes, skin, nose, ear and throat problems, who visited the Aam Aadmi clinics of Patran, Shutrana and Dudhan Sadhan of the district.
