Punjab government has removed the superintending engineer with additional charge of chief engineer Canal, Shammi Singla from the post and has deputed NK Jain, chief engineer mining as the new chief engineer Canals.

As per the available information, the department has taken this action after receiving a written complaint from his subordinates. He is reverted to his actual post of superintending engineer (SE).

The department has issued him a memorandum and asks him to respond the allegations leveled on him within 15 days.

As per the memorandum, superintending engineer with additional charge of chief engineer Canal, Shammi Singla had called up his subordinates and asked the executive engineer, Jandiala canal and ground water circle in Amritsar and executive engineer,  Majithia canal and ground water circle in Amritsar district to meet him personally, whenever they visit Chandigarh for any work. This act of Shammi Singla has created havoc in the minds of his subordinates.

As per the memorandum, “this act of Shammi Singla points towards something fishy is going on in his mind. The officer is planning to ask for undue favours from his subordinates, that’s why he is asking them to meet personally.”
