Today, the protesting farmer forums announce to launch their next phase of agitation.
Addressing a press conference at Chandigarh, SKM Non Political and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha leader Sarwan Singh Pandher along with other leaders said “we are determined to move towards the national capital from December 6 to raise various demands including the legal right to a minimum support price as per C2+50% profit and debt waiver”.
Concerned over continuous farm protests mainly targeting the BJP, Union minister of state for food- processing industry Ravneet Singh Bittu had asked the farmers and leaders of farmer organisations to shun protests and come forward for talks.
On this the farmers asked Ravneet Bittu that “we accepted your demand. We are coming to Delhi on foot and now you can arrange talks”. The farmer leaders further added that as of now no one has invited us for talk since February 18,2024.
The farmers decide that various jathas would move from Shambhu (in Patiala) from December 6, 2024. The first jatha will consist of senior leaders from both the farmer forums, SKM Non Political and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.
As per the available information, a jatha of 51 farmers will go daily to Delhi. A detailed program, list of farmers , jathas will be shared by the farmers on December 4,2024 at Shambhu border.
“The jathas will walk every day from 9 am to 5 pm and will spend the nights on the roads. Farmers from Haryana should support those walking towards the national capital to raise their voices for farming issues, and the central govt should look towards the demands,” ” Kisan Mazdoor Morcha convener Sarwan Singh Pandher said on Sunday.
Farmers want the blockade at Shambhu to be lifted to give them a way to move towards Delhi. Pandher announce that they will stay for the night at Ambala in Haryana on the first day.
Before this, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, Coordinator, SKM (non-political) had announced he would sit on a fast-unto-death protest at Sangrur’s Khanauri, which is at the border of Punjab and Haryana, from November 26.

The protesting farmers have been camping at Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13, when their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march, spearheaded by the SKM (Non-Political) and the KMM, was stopped by security forces.
