What a pity-no officer, no staff in PSPCL head office from a week; working collapsed

Once again all is not well in Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL), a 35K crore entity of the state government. With the beginning of the this year the powercom management is surrounded by number of problems.

The latest in the series is that the head office of the state’s largest corporation is vacant now days. No directors, engineers, ministerial staff of the PSPCL, working at its head office are allowed to enter the head office. The entry gates were blocked by kith and kins of deceased employees of the Punjab state power corporation limited. They are demanding jobs on compassionate grounds, as per PSPCL policy.

Today four members 2 ladies, 2 gents of the association have started “fast unto death”, outside the PSPCL head office, at Patiala.

Ajay Kumar, a member of the protesting association said’ the state government and the PSPCL fails to do justice with us. We are around 500 families who are protesting from the last one month and the management is just giving us assurance, not any solution. They are giving us assurance from the last many years, but fail to address our issue “

What a pity-no officer, no staff in PSPCL head office from a week; working collapsed. He said the families of workers to sub divisional officers (SDOs) are demanding jobs on compassionate ground, as per the policy.

Another member of the association said ‘till 2004, when Punjab state electricity board (PSEB) was there, the board gave us one time amount of Rs 3.00 lacs and no job was given. The board officials assured us that whenever the board changes its policy and start giving the jobs on compassionate ground, we will call you. In 2010 when the PSEB was unbundled, PSPCL and PSTCL came into existence, a new policy was framed. But we were, of 2004 and previous years were kept out of this. They are giving us step-motherly treatment.”

They further added that we are ready to return back the one time compassionate amount of Rs 3.00 lacs given to us.

“Our associations twelve members are already staging dharna at the rooftop of PSPCL head office seven storey building from the last around 35 days” added Ajay Kumar

When contacted RP Pandove, director administration of Punjab state power corporation limited (PSCL), he said ‘we are already reviewing the matter, policy. A senior IAS officer Gurpreet kaur Sapra, secretary finance is reviewing their case. We had already requested them to not to sit in front of the head office, as it is illegal and allow the staff to enter the premises. But they are not cooperating with us. The powercom, state government is desirous in solving their matter. We will definitely found a solution, at the earliest. Pandove added that even Hussan Lal IAS, principal secretary to CM also had a conversation with them.”

What a pity-no officer, no staff in PSPCL head office from a week; working collapsed. An engineer on the condition of anonymity said, “The working of the powercom has collapsed. The officers are working from VIP guest house, sheds and other offices of the powercom. The ministerial, clerical staff is sitting at home. When any official services were required, the officers call them from time to time. The staff is handicapped without files. Only working on computers is  going on as the record, files were in the offices. ”
