Women drivers to drive e-rickshaws in Pbi Uni Campus

To make Punjabi University campus greener , cleaner ,noise and pollution free, the Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University Patiala, Prof BS Ghuman flagged off a fleet of 10 e-rickshaws to ply in the campus.

Keeping in mind the safety of the girl students and female visitors, the university has hired women drivers. The introduction of these vehicles will further add to the eco-friendly environment of the university, as these do no emit any smoke or noise, said Ghuman.

Prof Ghuman while flagging off thee-rickshaws said  that “we have flagged off 10 e-rickshaws under a pilot project and the step would save the visitors from bad weather and hassles and will also save their time to commute”.

It would also be cost effective to both passengers and the owners of the e-rickshaws as these are battery operated and can be recharged. The battery is also recyclable, thus saving the problem of battery disposals, he said.

Ghuman further said that the university has been divided into three different zones where the e-rickshaws will ply, to cover the entire campus between 7 am to 7.30 pm everyday. Designated parking lots have been identified at various places, including near girl’s hostels.

Dean Academic Affairs Dr GS Batra, Registrar Dr MS Nijjer, STO Capt. Gurtej Singh were also present during the flagging off ceremony.
