World War II veteran centenarian Lance Naik Charan Singh’s birthday celebrated by Indian Army

In a crowd full of happiness and joy gathered at Village Ramgarh-Dekwala, District Rupnagar, a small platoon of Indian Army’s ASC (Armed Service Corps) stationed at Chandimandir lead by Brigadier J S Bisht, Sena Medal, Brig. ASC, Hq. Western Command, celebrated the 100th birthday of Lance Naik Charan Singh (Retd.). Brigadier Bisht honored Charan Singh by presenting him a Memento from ASC and a Congratulations Letter from Director General ASC, Lt. Gen. Preet Mohindra Singh. While addressing the gathering he requested Charan Singh to share the secret to his good health and long life and encouraged others to follow in his footsteps and build good health and also come forward to serve the nation. He also thanked Lance Naik Charan Singh for his services to the Indian Army and to the nation. While meeting amongst other Retd. Veterans of the village he wished veteran Sher Singh aged 95 years, good health hoping Indian Army gets chance to celebrate his 100th birthday after 5 years as well.

Lance Nail Charan Singh joined Indian Army in August 1942 and served through World War II at Burma & Singapore, he was serving at Lahore at the time of partition of India in 1947 and came to India from Pakistan in October 1947 and served at various places in India till May 1959. Thereafter he joined Civil Hospital Ropar as Store Keeper in 1968 and retired from there in 1982. During service he was fond of photography and has good number of old photographs taken by him in Singapore and other places during WW II and his service in Armed Forces, which he fondly remember and relishes even today. He is blessed with four and two daughters who are all married and settled Charan Singh is now having many great grandchildren, his son Sukhdev Singh and his wife remained Sarpanch of the village for 25 long years, his grandson Harsimar Singh Sitta is a Former Deputy Advocate General of Punjab.

Apart from Indian Army, to honor Charan Singh Retd. employees from Civil Hospital and Acting President Saini Bhawan Rupna  Rajinder Singh Nanuan were also present on the occasion. Team from Rotary Club Rupnagar including President Rtn. Kulwant Singh Former Secretary Rtn. Jatinder Pal Singh Rehal honored Charan Singh by presenting him Shawl and Momento.

World War II veteran centenarian Lance Naik Charan Singh’s birthday celebrated by Indian Army. Charan Singh also honored Brigadier J S Bisht by presenting him Shawl and a Sword.

Many other distinguished villagers, ex service men, panch and sarpanch along with villagers and relatives of Charan Singh were also present on the occasion.
