50th Athletic meet at Thapar Polytechnic College: Commemorating the Golden Jubilee of Sporting Excellence

Thapar Polytechnic College, Patiala was delighted to announce the commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of our prestigious Athletic Meet which took place on 7 March 2024. For fifty years, this event has been a beacon of excellence, showcasing the talents of athletes from various branches.
The proceeding of this auspicious day commenced with the arrival of the esteemed Guest of Honour Anil Bhargava(Chairman Managing Committee TPC Patiala), Chief Guest Jatinder Kumar (Olympian and Arjun awardee), Gurbinder Singh(Registrar TIET)& Lakhbir Singh(Director, Sports).They were warmly welcomed by the Principal Dr Ankush Kansal.At the very onset, the flag was hoisted and lightening the flame, in which, the torch was carried by the students and the colorful balloons were released. This was followed by the March Past in which students from all branches took part and they rendered salutes to the guests during their majestic March Past. The Chief guest in his speech encouraged the athletes to develop the spirit of leadership and teamwork under play.
An athletic meet is a vibrant celebration of athleticism, teamwork, and unbridled enthusiasm. The air is charged with the spirit of competition as athletes showcase their prowess in a kaleidoscope of events.
The meet started with athletic events,i.e.long jump, javelin throw,shot-put, discus throw,400 m, 200 m, relay race, andfungames like tug of war,lemon race,musical chairs, and hand knee toe hankey with boundless zeal and enthusiasm.
TPC took pride in its commitment to holistic development emphasizing the importance of both academic and extracurricular pursuits. The athlete meet serves as a testament to the college’s dedication to nurturing talent and fostering a vibrant culture on campus.
At the ends of the athlete meet winners were awarded with trophies and medals.
Anil Bhargava (Chairman Managing Committee TPC Patiala & Principal Dr.Ankush Kansal motivated the winners by rewarding them with certificates and medals. They encouraged the students and told them about the importance of athletic activities. Dr. Anurag Joshi (President of Sports TPC) thanked the dignitaries, the staff, and the students and concluded by saying, ” We are thrilled with the success of the athlete meet and the tremendous display of athleticism we witnessed. Events like these are essential for promoting sportsmanship, healthy competition, and fostering a sense of community among athletes.”

The annual athletic meet is the only time during the year when the entire college students and all the staff meet at the centenary ground. This year, the centenary ground was renovated to commemorate the 50th annual athlete meet.
