Prestigious Sardar Mohan Singh Debate Brings Together Patiala’s Top Schools

Modern Senior Secondary School, Patiala, once again became the stage for sharp intellectual exchange, as it hosted the Sardar Mohan Singh Inter-school Debate on 23 August 2025. Ten top schools of Patiala and Patiala District were invited to participate in the third edition of this annual debate.
The topic this year was: ‘Should space exploration be prioritized over solving Earth’s problems?’
After a closely fought contest, St. Peters Academy, Patiala, lifted the coveted winner’s trophy. Budha Dal Public School secured the first runner-up cup, while Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur School claimed the second runner-up cup.
At the individual level, Gurganimat Kaur of Budha Dal Public School was declared the best speaker and awarded a Bose bluetooth speaker. The second position went to Anshul Gupta of St. Peters Academy and the third prize to Karmanpreet Kaur of Modern Senior Secondary School, both receiving JBL bluetooth speakers.
Acknowledging the art of incisive questioning, the titles of Best Interjectors went to Varitti Arora and Samarvir, both of St. Peters Academy, Patiala, each receiving books worth Rs. 5,000/-.
The distinguished panel of independent judges comprised Ms Neha Gupta, a well-known motivational speaker & life coach, Dr. Amit Dhir, Associate Professor & Head, School of Energy and Environment, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala, and Dr. Mamta Gulati, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala.
Instituted in memory of the school’s visionary founder, Sardar Mohan Singh, who established Modern Senior Secondary School, Patiala, in 1948, this debate has become a hallmark of critical thinking and vibrant discourse in the city. Every year, it challenges young minds to dissect cutting edge issues and put forth constructive perspectives for a changing world.
