Educational Visit to Chholti Kheri Village by the Students of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University

The Literary Society of the Punjabi Department at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University organized an educational visit for students to the small village of Chholti Kheri in District Fatehgarh Sahib. The visit was flagged off by the Head of the Punjabi Department, Dr. Sikandar Singh. The primary objective of the visit was to familiarize students with the historical and cultural heritage of Punjab.

The highlight of the visit to Chholti Kheri was the presence of a magnificent banyan tree that has stood firmly rooted there for centuries. This banyan tree is believed to be approximately 300 years old and spreads over nearly three and a half acres of land. It is regarded as the largest tree in Punjab.

During the visit, students explored the deep connection between Punjabi culture and the environment. The educational tour was accompanied by the in-charge of the Literary Society, Dr. Harpreet Kaur, along with faculty membersNarinder Kaur, Dr. Charanjeet Kaur, and Kavita, who guided the students throughout the visit. The teachers highlighted the significance of trees in Punjabi folk life and cultural traditions.

On this occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. (Dr. ) Prit Pal Singh, and the Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. (Dr.) Sukhwinder Singh Billing, appreciated the initiative of the Punjabi Department and emphasized that such educational visits help students connect classroom learning with cultural and environmental realities.

Through this educational experience, students gained valuable insights into the cultural contexts associated with the environment. The department regularly organizes such visits to provide students with practical learning opportunities beyond the classroom curriculum.
