IIT Ropar to promote Green Skills; started free of cost certificate courses

Indian Institute of Technology Ropar today inaugurated a Certificate Training Course on “Waste Management” (2 months) and “Pollution Monitoring” (3 months) under the Green Skill Development Programme. Total 30 students were selected after a rigorous interview session.

Prof. Sarit K Das, Director, IIT Ropar along with Dr. S.S.Ladhar, Additional Director, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Prof. C.R. Suri, Head, Central Research Facility, IIT Ropar and Dr. Narinder Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, IIT Ropar inaugurated the course today in a lively ceremony.

This three months long course is part of an initiative for skill development launched by Prime Minister of India in the environment sector. This IIT Ropar course has 30 participants from all around India and will get free of cost practical hands-on training   in the premises of the campus in Waste Management and Pollution Monitoring. After successful completion of training, they will get “certificate” from Ministry of Environment and Forest and Climate Change which will be a boost to their professional career.

Prof. Das said, “IIT Ropar to promote Green Skills; started free of cost certificate courses. The candidates having developed their skills under this programme will have technical knowledge and commitment towards sustainable development and a step towards strengthening national development. The students will learn process-based green skills such as monitoring, impact assessment skill, and managing activities under environmental management.”

Dr. Ladhar said, “These courses also enable them learning of the effects of pollution on human health, major environmental issues, and community conservation issues and finally leading to formulate mitigation strategies.”

IIT Ropar stresses such initiatives as they complement the vision of the nation of skilling India’s youth and strengthening the resolve to conserve and protect the environment.
